Maybe some of you don’t know that Instagram launched their new feature last May, the Instagram Guides. What is it? And how this new feature will affect the way people use Instagram? Last week I had a light discussion with my Melbourne web developer and social media marketer friends about this update. And I’ll share my takeaway with you.
What is it?
First of all, let’s start with what is this guide and how it works. Basically, this feature allows users to discover curated content in a single location. The main focus of this feature will be on mental health and wellness. Instagram lets creators connect with expert organizations to share resources and tips on how to look after your well-being, maintain connections with others and manage anxiety during the coronavirus pandemic. For now, only several partnered accounts can use this feature. To satisfy your curiosity, you can visit the profile of participating creators like @afspnational, @heads_together, @vitaalere, @klicksafe, @headspace_aus, @deepikapadukone, @sudahdong and @eenfance.
What it looks like?
Visit one of the profiles above, then you will find book-like icon feeds and IGTV icon.
Tap it and it will open a scroll down page where you could read content that has been curated by the creator. Creator can insert pictures and videos from their page or sourced via other creators’ page.
How to utilize it?
When Instagram decide to roll out this feature to public, you can treat it like a microblog. Curate and share contents that provide value for your user. If you ask me, this will be a great place to soft sell and build credentials. Share tips and tricks, step-by-step guides and recommendations. Do not hesitate you cite other creators’ pictures or videos. But make sure you give them the proper credit. Maybe it would open up new opportunity to collaborate in the future.
