One of the most important things in the SEO world is to optimize your backlinks. Backlinks are links directed towards your website, also known as inbound links. Backlinks are targeted by many SEO engineers because Google will give more credit to websites that have good number of quality backlinks, and therefore consider those websites are more relevant than others in their search results pages for a search query – which results in better sales as there are more possibilities for people to find your website. This article is aimed for those who do not know how to create a good backlink and hopefully help you avoid you from producing bad backlinks and hurting your website. Here are some of the criteria of good backlinks.

1. Relevance of Content

What makes backlinks considered to be good is if you build good backlink support by paying attention to the relevance of its topic. For example, if you develop a website about car racing, and place a link on online shops which sell clothing that would be considered irrelevant. Oppositely, your website will be counted as relevant if you locate your link on another website which has relevant topic to yours. For example, you create an automotive online shop, then you put your link on car racing website, that means you are on the right track (no pun intended). Moreover, the more relevant the site that it is linking back to yours, the better the quality of the backlink.

2. Clean Site Backlinks

As in the first point.  relevancy is important, however, having clean site backlinks are just as important too. In fact, what causes a site being considered clean or not is not clear enough, but some sites which are considered clean, are mostly examples of government sites, education sites, and well established popular sites and on the opposite, for sure not having porn, gambling or similar adult content, or sites which are filled by many advertisements. So, if you want to set a backlink, you must remember to create a content which is relevant, helpful and informative and on a good clean site.

3. Avoid Doing Spam Comments

This point is a bit contrary to point no. 1 as spam comments means you have to leave a link on a website which may or may not have relevance with your product. This is not only annoying to viewer’s eyes but also not a friendly backlink for Google. This means you may lose your promotions and get a low rank in Google search engine. Furthermore, your links will be counted as spam if you over expose your promotions links on some website. That is why consider putting your link on the right website and in moderation.

4. Spread Your Links Wisely

You may be thinking that you are being  very active and trying to do a lot of promotions with your linking, but sorry to tell you, your hard work on producing a lot of links fast will have a rather more negative effect. Can you imagine, if you, as a customer, open ten websites a day and find the same promotion links on each of those websites. How do you feel? Irritate, right? That is why to prevent that circumstance, Google also limits the advertising per day and they are watching for similar behavior of link building across other websites. Google may shut your link down or the popular term for that thing is ‘sandboxed’ which a nightmare for every SEO engineer as Google will erase your website from its searches. If you already get sandboxed, you better delete your promotions backlinks to persuade Google to open your website again.

5. Get referral Links

The most challenging SEO task is getting referral links as this will require not only SEO techniques but also some sharp communication skills to influence those more quality sites, such as education, government, famous television station sites and etc., to willingly recommend you in their sites as their partners.

6. Links Exchange

Targeting bigger fish to promote you is not easy, but also isn’t hard if you know how to obtain it. One of the easiest ways to target the bigger fish is by having right communication with them and the right contacts also so you can work out a way to exchange their links with yours. The most common strategy for this is by becoming their donator or a useful resource for them eg. providing some content or advertisting.

7. Social media Promotions

Finally, instead of spaming irrelevant websites, you would be better off allocating your promotions directly on social media sites which are more relevant and targeted. Moreover, creating a particular social media for promotion will create a space for your website to be viewed by bigger audiences without being seen as spamming.
