Primary Design
Primary Design is a ideal CAD package for young students. It is focussed on the drawing and design process in a similar manner to real CAD systems.
It has a simple Windows compatible user interface with clear on screen prompts using simple straightforward language.
It has three distinct levels to address the different levels of student abilities - the simpler levels have the more sophisticated options removed.
The extra capabilities that this software provides prove invaluable for scale drawings, pattern design, modelling, etc. The transformation functions also provide powerful new tools for Maths teaching.
For Design and Technology teaching, pupils might draw part of a project (perhaps the base of a simple buggy) accurately to size, then print it onto paper on a standard printer, stick it to a sheet of corroflute/balsa, etc., then cut it out with a hand/shaper saw. This method is great for any parts that have to be made reasonably accurately, even very simple things like discs for wheels.
Primary Design heralds a new era in modern design drawing practice . For those pupils moving on to secondary schools using Design Tools - 2D Design (now well established as a secondary school standard), Primary Design offers a seamless transition in design software.
