Engravers

The engraving process is a very common technique to produce a sign or label. For example, weather resistant signs can be made on stainless steel and very fine engraving images are used in the printing industry.name plates02.

The engraving process is ideally suited to education because it combines CAD ( creation of a design using a computer) with CAM ( CAM involves using a computer to control the operation of a manufacturing tool).  A variety of materials - plastics, wood can be engraved to add the special input from the designer.

Students can create signs, labels, Printed circuit boards and a host of personalised creations. More importantly, the process is safe and fast so you can easily make a range of name tags for your students in a lesson.

Roland Engravers

There are 5 machines in the Roland engraver suite. These serve both the education and commercial applications.

The EGX-30 provides the most cost-effective computerised solution available for scibing brass for awards and trophies or engraving dual-coated, micro-thin plastics for professional badges, name plates, key rings and luggage tags.

Professional software is included.

The EGX-300 is the most advanced digital engraving system at this attractive price range. The EGX-300 offers versatile professional engraving in a desktop format from engraving simple nametags and nameplates to creating attractive awards and signs with reliefs.

Add 2D Design and Make and PCB Design and Make and you have a complete CAD/CAM system

EGX/400 and EGX600= These versatile heavy-duty bench-top engravers enable you to produce a wide variety of applications including 3D reliefs for distinctive signs as well as name plates, awards and trophies, medallions, ADA signage, control panels and much more. A powerful suite of software is included.

Design cadalysts

Good design briefs can support the engraving system. For example:

  • Design a low cost promotional ruler for the school that has common formulas on the ruler.
  • Examine a better system of dog tags that show the name of the dog, phone number and address. Try to use materials that may also act as a reflector in bad light. ( My name is Oscar and all I have is 532 as my code)

  • Comment on the common problem of house numbers and design an engraved sign that clearly differentiates between common errors between 5,3 and 8. That is look at the engraving fonts.
  • Design a printed circuit board with PCB design and make that is the basis for a teaching module on Microcontrollers. Each board must be different and reinforce the input-output-process learning plan.
  • Design an engraved float that floats in water and measures the density. The engraving marks may be spaced in an uneven manner.
