CAM - Computer aided manufacture and Roland

Nearly all products are designed with computer aided design software that allows the designer to model the part, fit it into assemblies and check designs.

The CAD software drawings or files that can be fed into computers that control laser and plasma cutters, 3D printers, numerically controlled lathes, mills, water jet cutters, sheet metal fabricators, vinyl cutters, coordinate measuring machines and others.

These machines are the CAM part of the concept that take a virtual design to a real product.

These pages cover the CAM machines from Roland that cover engraving, cutting vinyl, scanning objects and 3D milling. Specific education activities will also be presented.

Lasercutter

Laser cutters use high power gas carbon dioxide lasers to cut plastics, metals and other materials. Computers control the X and Y travel and the laser power

High speed machining centres use cutting tools to remove metals. The computer generated tool paths place the tool at the correct X, Y and Z positions that relate to the original file

High speed plasma cutters are an excellent system to cut metals.
