Assembly of HB 2

Assembly of the HB 2 board is straightforward with the appropriate steps similar to HB1 assembly

Ensure you have a good soldering iron and a good pair of sidecutters.

NOTE: The assembly instructions are the same for HB 2 rev 1 boards apart from the external power supply connector - SERVO and the two options for the infra red receiver.

Step 1: Solder Resistors

1. Find resistors: Go to the resistor bag and sort out resistors R1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9, Use the resistor colour codes as in the HB 1 assembly.

2. Break out the HB 2board: Get the HB 2 board from the boards you have broken out of the panel.

3. Insert the resistors. The actual values are marked on the circuit board. Insert the resistors into the correct locations.

4. Flip the circuit board over. It is easy to solder the low components first. The low resistors will stay in place

5. Solder the resistors. Solder the resistors in place making sure that the board is flat and the components are flush with the board.

6. Trim the resistors. Cut off the excess leads of the resistors with a pair of sidecutters.

Step 2: Solder Connector

1. Find the connector. Locate the connector in the hardware bag.

2. Insert the connector into JP2

3 Flip Over

4. Solder the connector.

Step 3: Solder Capacitors

1. Find the capacitors. Locate the parts in the capacitor bag.

2. Insert the 100nF. Insert into positions C6,C3, and C5. These are marked on the board.

3. Insert the 1.0uF capacitors. These are located in position C7, C2 and C4. Make sure that the polarity is correct and the + on the capacitor matches the + on the PCB.

3 Flip Over

4. Solder the components.

Step 4: Solder headers

1. Get headers. Locate the 3 pin headers in the hardware bag.

2. Insert the headers. Insert these into positions J2, J3, J4, J7, J6, J6 ,J1 as per the diagram.

3. Flip the board over

4. Solder the components.

Step 5: Solder ldr

1. Get ldr. Locate the light dependent resistor from the semiconductor bag.

2. Insert the component. Insert the LDR into position LDR1 as per the figure.

3. Flip the board over

4. Solder the components.

Step 6: Solder Screw Terminals

1. Get terminals. Locate these in the hardware bag.

 2. Insert the component. Insert the terminals into SW3, SW2, SW1 and Servo positions. Make sure that these are oriented such that the inserted wires are on the outside of the board.

3. Flip the board over

4. Solder the components.

Step 7: Solder IR Receiver

1. Get IR receivers. Locate this in the semiconductor bag.

 2. Insert the component. Insert the terminals into position Q1 making sure that the dome part points outwards as the figure.

3. Flip the board over

4. Solder the components.
